Today's Meditation - July 6, 2020

Today's Meditation
Read Romans 8:26-28
26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

Have there been moments in your life when it has become so overwhelming that you can't even find the words to pray?  The author of Romans says that in our weakness or in the those moments, it's ok if we don't know how to pray because the Spirit does the praying for us.  God knows what is in our hearts.  God knows our desires and our worries.  God knows what troubles us and our deep pain.
When those moments overwhelm me, I am reminded to breathe.  The Spirit is often referred to in scripture as The Breath - the ruah - of God.  Just sit and breathe, even if that breath needs to come between pouts of tears.  Just sit and breathe.
When we give ourselves the moment to sit with God, breathing out and breathing in, not even in prayer having to say anything, just in the quiet - the Holy Spirit, The Breath of God, takes all of those pent up emotions and translates them into God language, then fills us with comfort, understanding, and sometimes even purpose.
Take a few moments now and just breathe, let The Breath of God translate your prayers and fill you with comfort today.
