Today's Meditation

John 13:1, 3-5
It was just before the Passover Festival.  Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father.  Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so while they were sharing the Passover meal, he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.  After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

Returning to the planned readings for Holy Week, I've been trying to make connections from today's passage and its relevance to our current lives.
I saw a post a while ago (like yesterday, or the last week, or maybe even in the past hour - time is an emergent event these days) on Facebook that said something like "You're Not Stuck at Home, You're Safe at Home."  It's all a matter of perspective.  Our perspective this year during this Holy Week, especially, is quite warped and out of sync with everything we've ever known.  But sometimes, I think, that can bring clarity to to our lives.
The most important thing - the clarity I'm speaking of - is that there is really only one thing that's important; that we know how much God loves us.  Jesus came to earth, separated from the Father in heaven, for only one reason - to bring us into redemption with God through his life, death, and resurrection.  But the miracles he showed us, the lessons he taught us, and the life he led while he breathed and walked this earth are invaluable to us.  One of those lessons he taught us over and over again is how we should treat others.  Jesus knelt down and washed his disciples' feet.
When we emerge from our safety at home, may we serve God more fully, by serving one another more fully.
